Francis Anderson Adzei

Francis Anderson Adzei is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Public Administration and Health Services Management, University of Ghana Business School. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Public Administration from the University of Ghana.  Prior to this feat, he obtained a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree in Health Promotion from the University of Bergen, Norway and a Bachelor of Science in Administration (BSc. Admin) degree in Health Services Administration with First Class (Honours) from the University of Ghana. This diversity in his background positions him as a transdisciplinary academic. In this regard, he brings this distinctiveness to bear in his teaching and research activities at the University. His research interests include health policy, human resources for health interlocked with organisational change, health and safety, human development and public sector management.  In these areas, he has published widely in reputable international academic journals and presented papers at several international conferences. He has also served as an ad hoc reviewer for several international academic journals in these disciplines.

His teaching philosophy focuses on student-activated learning, which engenders students’ active involvement in the teaching and learning process.  He combines the novel approaches of Research-Based Teaching (RBT) and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) effectively, to challenge students to bond classroom work with practice in the real world.  These pedagogical approaches facilitate the process of engaging students’ attention within and beyond class sessions.  His ethos is hinged on the necessity for total human development.  Incidentally, his teaching philosophy extends to benefit students in residence.  He is very active in the Tutorial Office of Commonwealth Hall, where he served as a Tutor for several years to ensure that Junior Members of the University are totally developed to be the best possible assets to themselves and the larger society.  He is currently the Deputy Senior Tutor of the Hall.

In addition to his teaching, research and extension activities at the University of Ghana, Francis provides consultancy services for public and private sector institutions, including local and international organisations such as UNDP, Ghana Health Service, Financial Accountability & Transparency–Africa (FAT-Africa), Youth Bridge Foundation and many more. He facilitates training programmes for several public and private sector organisations as well. As part of his industry engagement to uphold highest standards of ethical behaviour in society, Francis serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), the local chapter of the international non-governmental anti-corruption organisation, the Transparency International (TI).
