UGBS and Google Hold Seminar on Responsible AI
On 4th December, The Department of Operations and Management Information System (OMIS) at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) in collaboration with Google organised a seminar on Responsible Artificial intelligence (AI) for Business Analytics Students at the R.S. Amegashie Auditorium.
Prof. Emmanuel Awuni, Coordinator of Data Science and Analytics, UGBS, urged the students to take advantage of their partnership with Google to build practical and relevant AI skills and gain professional certifications to enhance their career prospects. He encouraged students to be creators of AI tools and systems and not only consumers. He further advised that they build AI systems with appropriate data to create responsible AI.
Mr. Dennis Agyarko, Community Manager, Responsible AI, Google, presented on the evolution of AI, ecosystem of AI and responsible AI. He stated that AI has been transformed by potentials and democratisation. Mr. Agyarko pointed out that AI should be inclusive and feedback-oriented to serve its social benefit. He emphasised that the developing of AI systems should be based on the principles of fairness, safety, accountability and privacy. He mentioned that Google’s collective goal is to develop AI systems that are beneficial by taking bold steps, prioritising responsible practices and collaborating effectively. Mr. Agyarko introduced the students to Google Responsible Generative AI Toolkit and Cloud Skill Boost giving free access to UGBS student to enroll and develop essential AI skills.
Prof. Justice Bawole, Dean of UGBS, mentioned that the conversation around AI is everywhere and advised that they take it seriously and explore the opportunities AI offers. He noted that AI will replace some jobs but create new opportunities urging them to prepare themselves to be among the leaders of new jobs created by AI. He expressed his appreciation to Dennis Agyarko and Google for sharing knowledge with the students. He invited Mr. Agyarko to come again to speak to the students about leveraging AI for jobs and job opportunities at Google.
