Emmanuel Joel Aikins Abakah

Dr. Emmanuel Joel Aikins Abakah is a Lecturer in Finance at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), Ghana. He earned his Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Adelaide, Australia in September 2019. He also holds an MPhil in Finance from University of Ghana, Ghana and a B.Sc. in Statistics with Computing from University of Cape Coast, Ghana. Before joining University of Ghana, he worked as a Lecturer in Finance at the University of Cape Coast School of Economics, Ghana and Sessional Lecturer in Finance at the University of Adelaide Business School, Australia. He is an experienced applied financial researcher and analyst with a demonstrated history of working in the financial ecosystem of Ghana with focus on investment and equity research prior to pursuing an academic career.

His research tends to cross the boundaries of narrowly defined fields as he constantly looks for promising ideas from several perspectives. His primary research interest lies in the area of Empirical Finance, Corporate Finance, Asset Pricing, Financial Markets, Digital Finance (fintech, digital currencies, blockchain assets etc), Personal Finance and Applied Finance. He applies a variety of time-series and panel approaches, both linear and non-linear, to validate finance and economic theoretical approaches and has published in  international research outlets including high quality ABDC ranked A*/A scholarly  journals such as, Journal of Economic Behaviour and Organization, Energy Economics, International Review of Financial Analysis, International Review of Economics and Finance, Finance Research Letters, Global Finance Journal, Journal of Commodity Markets, International Review of Finance, Applied Economics, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Journal of Cleaner Production etc. He has presented his research in leading international finance conferences including Paris Financial Management Conference (Paris), Cryptocurrency Research Conference (UK) and seminars in several universities. He is a Principal Consultant at African Review of Economics and Finance (AREF) Consult and consults on academic and industry research projects in the broad fields of finance.
