University of Eastern Finland Visit UGBS to Discuss Opportunities for Partnerships
On the 11th of October 2023, the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) hosted a delegation from the University of Eastern Finland (UEF), led by their Rector, Jukka Mönkkönen. The meeting, which was held at the UGBS new Conference Centre marked the beginning of a discussion on ways that both business schools can collaborate and forge partnerships.
In his brief welcome remarks, the Dean of the Business School, Professor Justice Bawole, informed the team about the various academic programs offered by the Business School. He further highlighted UGBS’s commitment to providing excellent tertiary education.
Professor Bawole also emphasised UGBS's enthusiasm for the collaboration indicating the school’s strength of having a substantial faculty and dedicated staff members. The meeting subsequently continued with further discussions about the possibility of finalising the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which began earlier to formalise the shared interests and enhance their partnership.
The Global Development Manager of UEF, Roseanna Avento, stressed the need to update the existing MoU to demonstrate their commitment to strengthening the relationship. She further added that UEF has other collaborations with 14 African countries.
Taking his turn, the Rector of UEF, Prof. Jukka Mönkkönen, indicated that UEF is a multidisciplinary institution with 27 international graduate programmes and the desire to expand globally. He added their keen interest in engaging with Africa, focusing on countries such as Ghana, Namibia, South Africa, and Tanzania. He then concluded by indicating that UEF is dedicated to fostering international talents and has already enrolled over 1,000 African students.
The meeting had in attendance both UGBS faculty and staff including the Coordinator for the International Relations Unit, Prof. Elikplimi Komla Agbloyor, and an alumnus of UEF, Dr. Emmanuel Awuni.
