UGBS Professor of Health Policy and Management, Patience Aseweh Abor Appointed to the 12-Member Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy

University of Ghana Business School’s (UGBS) Professor of Health Policy and Management, Patience Aseweh Abor, has been appointed to serve on the newly inaugurated 12-member Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE). Prof. Abor brings to the Advisory Group extensive academic and research expertise in health systems, policy analysis and management, leadership and governance. Her inclusion highlights the critical intersection between health policy and economic planning, particularly in advancing sustainable development and strengthening social sector outcomes. President John Dramani Mahama swore in the high-level Advisory Group on 11th February 2026, tasking members to provide strategic guidance to accelerate Ghana’s economic revitalisation and ensure sustainable long-term growth. The Group, chaired by the President, is expected to offer expert policy recommendations, strengthen macroeconomic stability and propose innovative solutions to address prevailing economic challenges.

Addressing members at the inauguration ceremony, President Mahama explained the importance of evidence-based analysis and independent counsel in the discharge of their mandate. He emphasised the need for objective and data-driven policy guidance as the country navigates its economic recovery efforts, with a focus on fiscal discipline, restoring investor confidence, job creation and improving the livelihoods of Ghanaians. The 12-member Advisory Group comprises distinguished individuals drawn from academia, public service and the private sector. Members include Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang; Mr. Ishmael Yamson; Mr. Kwame Pianim; Nana Oye Mansa Yeboaa; Dr. Kwabena Duffuor; Sir Samuel Esson Jonah; Mr. Ato Brown; Dr. Henry Kofi Wampah; Togbe Afede XIV; Ms. Abena Amoah; Prof. Priscilla Twumasi Baffour; and Prof. Patience Aseweh Abor.

Prof. Patience Aseweh Abor is the first Female Full Professor at University of Ghana Business School. She has over a decade of distinguished service in academia, research, leadership, and public service. She joined UGBS as a Graduate Assistant in 2007 and steadily rose through the ranks, becoming an Associate Professor in 2021 and Full Professor in 2024. She has served in numerous leadership capacities at the university, including Coordinator of Graduate Programmes, Hall Tutor at Akuafo Hall, and Member of the University’s Academic Board. 

Her research, which spans healthcare governance, universal health coverage, leadership in health institutions and maternal health, has earned local and international recognition. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to several books on health policy and governance in Africa. She is also a recipient of multiple research grants from organisations such as the World Health Organisation, African Economic Research Consortium, and International Finance Corporation. In addition to her academic accomplishments, she is a registered nurse, actress, musician, and social entrepreneur. She is the Founder and Director of ExGlo Foundation, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to improving access to healthcare, education and skills training for livelihood project in deprived communities in Ghana. She also serves on the board of GNPC Foundation and chairs the Corporate Governance, Brands and Media Committee of the Board.
