UGBS Alumna, Ms. Kenndicta A-ensonga Ajene, Empowers Underprivileged Communities through A-ensonga Hearts Foundation

In an inspiring tale of resilience and dedication, Ms. Kenndicta A-ensonga Ajene, an alumna of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), has emerged as a beacon of hope for underprivileged communities through her organisation, A-ensonga Hearts Foundation.

Ms. Ajene pursued a Bachelor of Science in Administration (Marketing option) and climaxed it recently with a Master of Science degree in International Business all at UGBS. She also graduated at the top of the postgraduate class of 2023 from the School of Graduate Studies with a final grade point average of 3.97/4.0, making her the overall best graduating post-graduate student at the University. Her academic pursuits at UGBS equipped her with the skills and values necessary to lead impactful change in society.  “The nurturing environment at the University of Ghana fostered my growth in two key areas: excellence and self-confidence. The dedication and accessibility of the lecturers instilled in me a deep appreciation for compassion. This spirit of giving back motivates my selfless work with the foundation.” She noted.

Driven by her father's acts of kindness and her passion for social transformation, Ms. Ajene founded A-ensonga Hearts Foundation in 2020. Since its inception, the organisation has spearheaded numerous projects to improve access to education and essential resources for children in rural Ghana. Among the Foundation's notable initiatives is the "Floor-to-Furniture Project," which has provided desks to over 500 students in Goriko Primary School, Fr. Lebel Memorial R/C Primary School, Balungu- Nabiisi D/A K.G Primary School and Amoyaama Primary School in the Upper East Region. Additionally, through the "Potable Water for All Project," A-ensonga Hearts has constructed boreholes in Ayopia Primary School, Gowrie Primary and JHS, and Kunkua Primary School all in the Upper East Region, ensuring access to clean water for needy communities.

Prof. Kobby Mensah, one of Ms. Ajene’s lecturers commended her saying, “Kenndicta has enormous people skills, extremely good working relationships with her peers, and is always willing to share her experiences with anyone. She is a natural leader and demonstrated her leadership skills during her period as a class representative. She exhibited great work ethics, being punctual and productive, helping to disseminate lecture documents to her class and arranging tutorial sessions.”

Reflecting on her transformative journey, Ms. Ajene acknowledges the role of UGBS in shaping her into the leader she is today. She attributes her success to the nurturing environment and dedication of UGBS faculty members, who have instilled a deep appreciation for compassion and excellence.  She commended Prof. Kwame Adom, Prof. Kobby Mensah, Prof. Mahmoud Abdulaih Mahmoud, Dr. Babara Esmond, Dr. Mahama Brimah, Prof. Tweneboa Kodua, Dr. Prince Kodua, Dr. Raphael Odoom, Dr. Adam Sulley, Dr. Priscilla Ntuo, Prof. Bedman Nartey and Dr. George Acheampong. She further extended gratitude to Mr. Sadick Abubakari, Mr. Chris Atadika, Mr. Oliver Edem Ashiably, Mr. Edward Agyekum, Mr. Abdul Salam, Mr. Deli Dotse Gli and Mr. Eric Arhin who are great Teaching Assistants at UGBS, and contributed to shaping her into the person she has become.

She added, “Walking into meetings with the 'Legon Spirit' has always been a plus, often aiming for nothing less than the 'Business School' standards. The senior and junior members of the UG Business School probably understand this better than others.”

Looking ahead, Ms. Ajene envisions a future where every child has access to quality education and essential resources. With strategic objectives outlined for the next three years, she aims to expand the reach of the A-ensonga Hearts Foundation and deepen its impact, with the support of esteemed organisations.
