Tobinco Media Group Explores Collaborative Opportunities with UGBS Department of Accounting
The Department of Accounting at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) has engaged a delegation from the Tobinco Media Group to explore collaborative opportunities aimed at strengthening linkages between academia and the media. The meeting took place on 2 December 2025 and forms part of the School’s broader strategy to promote industry engagement and public impact.
The Tobinco Media Group delegation was led by the Managing Director, Mrs. Odelia Ntiamoah, and included the Deputy Managing Director of Bulletin TV, Nana Adwoa Annan, and the News Editor, Mr. Bright Nana Amfoh. They were received by the Head of the Department of Accounting, Prof. Godfred Matthew Yaw Owusu, together with faculty members of the Department.
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Ntiamoah articulated Tobinco Media Group’s interest in developing a structured and mutually beneficial partnership with UGBS. She emphasised the organisation’s commitment to incorporating research-informed perspectives into its news and educational programming, particularly on Bulletin TV. By systematically engaging academic experts in economics, accounting and related disciplines, Tobinco seeks to enrich public discourse, promote evidence-based journalism and enhance the credibility of business reporting. She further noted that the partnership would increase institutional visibility and amplify the societal impact of both organisations. As part of the proposed engagement, she indicated plans to share Tobinco’s 2026 programming calendar with UGBS faculty to facilitate effective coordination.
Mrs. Ntiamoah also outlined several prospective areas of collaboration, including regular participation of UGBS faculty in televised panel discussions, joint public events, and co-creation of specialised business and economic content. A key initiative under consideration is a research-oriented internship programme that would offer students practical industry exposure, strengthen applied research and communication skills, and enhance graduate employability. In addition, Tobinco Media Group expressed interest in receiving targeted capacity-building support from UGBS to further strengthen the analytical depth of its business journalism.
Contributing to the discussion, Mr. Amfoh stressed the importance of providing platforms for accounting and finance professionals to engage directly in national economic conversations. He noted that sustained interaction with subject-matter experts would improve the quality, accuracy and relevance of economic reporting, while reducing the risk of misinformation in public discourse.
Responding on behalf of the Department, Prof. Owusu welcomed the proposed collaboration and highlighted the Department’s strong expertise in accounting, finance and public sector financial management. He reaffirmed the Department’s readiness to support initiatives of national significance through knowledge dissemination and expert engagement. Prof. Owusu also shared plans to establish a practical accounting laboratory to enhance experiential learning and professional readiness among students. He emphasised, however, the importance of clearly defined partnership frameworks to preserve academic independence, ethical standards and professional integrity.
The discussions further explored potential joint activities, including budget and fiscal policy analyses, seminar series for students, and practitioner forums focused on emerging issues in accounting, governance and economic management. Both parties agreed to establish dedicated communication channels to support effective coordination and implementation. As part of the engagement, Tobinco Media Group indicated its intention to offer internship and research opportunities to accounting students at Bulletin TV, as well as placements for marketing students to support production and communications functions.
The engagement reflects UGBS’s ongoing commitment to forging strategic partnerships that enhance teaching, research relevance and societal impact through meaningful collaboration with industry stakeholders.
