Vienna University of Economics and Business, Welthandelsplatz (WU) Explores Collaborative Opportunities with University of Ghana Business School (UGBS)

The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) hosted Prof. Jonas Puck, Dean for International Affairs from the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU), Welthandelsplatz, on Monday, 20th January 2025 to explore areas of mutual interest and potential collaboration. The meeting was held at the UGBS Dean’s Office, with Prof. Justice N. Bawole, Dean of UGBS, some faculty members of UGBS and the International Programmes Office. 

Welcoming the delegation, Prof. Bawole provided an overview of UGBS’s programmes, including its undergraduate, graduate, and short courses. He highlighted the school’s faculty strength, available facilities, and governance structures, demonstrating UGBS’s capacity to engage in strategic partnerships. 

In response, Prof. Puck shared insights into the Vienna University of Economics and Business, noting that the institution has approximately 2,000 faculty members, including PhD support staff. He emphasised that WU offers a wide range of programmes like those at UGBS, making collaboration feasible. Prof. Puck also mentioned that WU already has partnerships with five African universities and is keen to include UGBS as a partner. He added that WU offers fully English and bilingual German-English programmes. 

Discussions further focused on various collaborative opportunities, including faculty mobility, joint research projects, faculty exchange programmes, and workshops to facilitate publications. Prof. Bawole expressed UGBS’s openness to further partnerships and highlighted opportunities for PhD external examiners. He assured Prof. Puck that the University of Ghana International Programmes Office would take the necessary steps to identify and map potential areas for collaboration. Present also for the discussion was Prof. Vera O. Fiador, Head of the Department of Finance, Ms. Saratu Salifu, Assistant Registrar (General), and Ms. Catherine Emefa Aziaku, Assistant Registrar (Academic Affairs, Undergraduate and Affiliate).
