UGBS Innovation and Incubation Hub Hosts Entrepreneurship Summit for Student Start-Ups
As part of activities to mark the 45th Management Week Celebration, the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) Innovation and Incubation Hub, also known as “Nest”, organised an Entrepreneurship Summit featuring an exhibition and pitch competition for student-led businesses. The event took place on 18th July 2025 and was coordinated by Dr. Priscilla N. Otuo from the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship. Held under the theme “From Vision to Ventures – Igniting Student Innovation”, the summit aimed to nurture entrepreneurial talent and transform student businesses and ideas into viable ventures by providing a platform to pitch their innovations before a panel of experts.
Serving as both Keynote Speaker and Chairman of the 45th Management Week Celebration, Professor Stephen Mahama Braimah highlighted the Hub’s strategic role in nurturing student innovation and entrepreneurship. He emphasised that the development of Ghana is closely tied to the success of its entrepreneurs, stressing the need to support and sustain youth-led business initiatives. The panel of judges comprised: Dr. Priscilla N. Otuo – Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship, Ms. Saratu Salifu – Assistant Registrar, General Administration, Ms. Catherine Emefa Aziaku – Assistant Registrar, Academic Affairs, Dr. Emmanuel K. Ayisi – Department of Public Administration and Dr. Emmanuel Aikins Abakah – Department of Finance.

Seventeen student-run businesses participated in the competition. The ventures included: Mycopack, Rapid Manual Urinalysis, Baobel, Kismet Wines, BB Collective, Drone Collection, Swivel, Agritom, Yeni, AutoEase, Natural Brew, Intern Africa, Flavor Vap, SM, YARP CCI, Mushroom Paper, and Resilie. Each team was allocated three minutes to pitch their business idea, followed by a two-minute question-and-answer session with the judges. The judges assessed the pitches based on various criteria, including clarity of the business idea, the problem addressed, the proposed solution, market potential, and the social, environmental, and economic impact of the business.
At the close of the competition, Agritom emerged as the overall winner with 78.8 points, Intern Africa secured second place with 73 points, while BB Collective placed third with 72.5 points. To add a touch of excitement to the day, there was an entertainment session led by Ms. Danita Akosua Adomaah Yeboah, a UGBS student and professional dancer popularly known as Afronita. She thrilled the audience alongside the AfroStar Kids Academy dance group, creating a vibrant atmosphere to conclude the summit.
