UGBS Engages the Ambassador of China to Ghana

A high-level delegation from the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) has paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Ghana, His Excellency Mr. Tong, on 10 December 2025. The visit formed part of the School’s Industry Engagement agenda, which seeks to strengthen strategic relationships with key diplomatic and corporate partners.

The delegation was led by the Dean of UGBS, Prof. Ernest Tweneboah-Kodua, and included two former Deans of the School—Prof. Joshua Yindenaba Abor and Prof. Justice N. Bawole—as well as the Head of the Department of Finance, Prof. Vera Ogeh Fiador, and the School’s Alumni Coordinator, Dr. Edward Entee. Their discussions with the Ambassador centred on advancing collaborative initiatives that would create tangible academic and industry benefits for both institutions.

During the meeting, the parties explored avenues for deepening cooperation between UGBS, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, and corporate organisations within China’s business ecosystem. Particular emphasis was placed on developing mutually beneficial partnerships with leading Chinese business schools. Priority areas of interest included faculty and student exchange schemes, joint academic research on Africa–China business relations and emerging trends in digital trade, co-hosted executive seminars, and public lectures aimed at enriching policy and business discourse in Ghana.

The Ambassador welcomed UGBS’s proactive engagement and expressed strong interest in strengthening academic links that support Ghana–China socio-economic cooperation. He underscored the value of sustained collaboration between academic institutions and diplomatic missions in fostering cultural understanding, research innovation, and long-term economic partnerships.

Prof. Tweneboah-Kodua reiterated UGBS’s commitment to positioning itself as a premier thought leader and academic partner in Africa–China business scholarship. He noted that such engagements expand the School’s global footprint, enhance its internationalisation strategy, and create new opportunities for students and faculty to engage with global business practices.

The visit marks a significant step in broadening UGBS’s international partnerships and affirms the School’s ambition to contribute meaningfully to Ghana–China economic and educational cooperation. Further discussions are expected to refine the partnership frameworks and translate the agreed initiatives into actionable programmes.
