UGBS Delegation Visits National Insurance Commission to Discuss CampusCare Project

A delegation from the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) paid a working visit to the National Insurance Commission (NIC) on 6th May 2026 to discuss the CampusCare Project, an innovative initiative aimed at equipping university students with practical insurance and employability skills while deepening insurance awareness on campuses. The UGBS delegation comprised Mr. Emmanuel Poku- Sarkodee, School Administrator; Dr. Daniel Sasu, Senior Lecturer; and Ms. Afia Benewaa Domfeh, Alumni Relations Officer.

Representing the NIC were Ms. Rita Appau, Head of the Innovation and Inclusive Insurance Unit; Mr. Justice Peprah Agyei, Executive Assistant to the Commissioner; and Dr. Abiba Zakariah of the National Insurance Commission. Discussions centred on the implementation of the CampusCare Project, which seeks to provide students with hands-on experience through student-led insurance solutions designed to address the protection needs of both present and future generations. Both the NIC and UGBS reaffirmed their shared commitment to supporting initiatives that promote innovation and strengthen human capital development within Ghana’s insurance and financial ecosystem.

The initiative is anchored on capacity building and is envisioned as an incubation platform where students can develop practical competencies across the insurance value chain, including product development, governance, management, and underwriting. Beyond technical training, the project also seeks to cultivate a culture of risk awareness and financial literacy among students, positioning them as long-term ambassadors for insurance within their communities. The CampusCare Project is expected to serve as a strategic step toward building a future-ready insurance workforce while fostering greater awareness and appreciation of insurance among the youth.
