UGBS Alumni Relations Unit Pays Courtesy Visit to Newmont Ghana Country Manager

The Alumni Relations Unit of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Danquah Addo-Yobo, Country Manager of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited, on 7th May 2026 at the company’s premises as part of efforts to strengthen alumni engagement and foster industry-academia collaboration. The UGBS delegation was received by Mr. Danquah Addo-Yobo, an alumnus of the school, together with Mr. David Ebo Johnson, Director of Communications and External Relations at Newmont. The delegation comprised Prof. Vera Ogeh Fiador, Head of the Department of Finance; Dr. Edward Entee, Coordinator of the UGBS Alumni Relations Unit; Mr. Emmanuel Poku-Sarkodee, School Administrator; and Ms. Afia Benewaa Domfeh, Alumni Relations Officer.

During the meeting, Mr. Emmanuel Poku-Sarkodee stated that the purpose of the visit was to officially congratulate Mr. Danquah Addo-Yobo on his appointment and to strengthen ties with him as an alumnus of the school. He added that the school also sought to explore opportunities for collaboration between UGBS and Newmont towards national development. Ms. Afia Benewaa Domfeh gave a brief update on the activities of the Alumni Association and invited Mr. Danquah Addo-Yobo to engage with students whenever possible through mentorship and career conversations. Mr. David Ebo Johnson also noted that leadership and management are highly relevant to Newmont, especially people management, adding that a partnership with UGBS would be valuable to the company.

Prof. Vera Ogeh Fiador stated that industry-academia collaboration is very important to the school. She mentioned that the school continuously identifies opportunities for alumni to interact with students to provide encouragement and practical industry exposure. She added that such engagements often support internship opportunities for students and other student development initiatives. She further explained that alumni and companies use such engagements as meaningful corporate social responsibility activities for their broader impact on society. Dr. Edward Entee inquired about possible areas of engagement between UGBS and Newmont and how the school could support the company through research, staff training, and other professional development initiatives. He also briefed Mr. Danquah Addo-Yobo on the progress of the Alumni Association and highlighted the support the Association continues to provide to the school and its students.

Mr. Danquah Addo-Yobo expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit and commended the team for their consistency and patience in securing the meeting despite his busy schedule. He remarked that UGBS has made tremendous progress since his time as a student and noted that the visit made him feel connected to the school once again. He further mentioned that Newmont is interested in the Corporate Executive Residence Project being spearheaded by the Alumni Association and mentioned that the company has many business professionals, creating significant opportunities for collaboration with UGBS. Mr. Danquah Addo-Yobo also sought to learn more about the alumni network and its activities. Going forward, he indicated his commitment to following the activities and engagements of the Alumni Association while engaging his team to explore potential areas of collaboration between UGBS, the Alumni Association, and Newmont Ghana.
