NLA Donates Generator Set to UGBS to Enhance Reliable Energy Solutions

The National Lottery Authority (NLA), led by its Director-General, Hon. Sammy Awuku, has donated a generator set to the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) to support academic activities through reliable energy solutions. The donation ceremony took place on 19th December 2024, at the UGBS undergraduate campus. In attendance were staffs and faculty members.

The Dean of UGBS, Prof. Justice N. Bawole, expressed gratitude to the NLA for the generous gesture. He disclosed that the school had proposed a “60-60 partnership” with Hon. Awuku when both institutions were celebrating their 60th anniversaries. He explained that under the partnership, UGBS would provide training opportunities for NLA staff to foster mutual growth and development.

In his address, Hon. Sammy Awuku stated that the NLA remains committed to supporting education, health, youth and sports development, and arts and culture, which are key pillars of the NLA Foundation. He emphasised that the donation was part of the authority’s ongoing efforts to give back to society. “For me, I believe that the lottery Authority should give back to society all over the nation. This donation is one of the pillars of the NLA Foundation to support education,” Hon. Awuku remarked.

Highlighting the broader impact of the NLA’s contributions, he stated that the authority has positively impacted over two million lives across Ghana. He also announced that the NLA had recently been inducted as an observer into the European Lotteries, becoming the third African country to join the global body. “The NLA is now part of the African Lottery Association, and I am pleased to inform you that I am the Vice President of the World Lottery Association. I encourage my successor to maintain and expand these milestones,” he added. He also proposed the introduction of specialised courses in lottery management at UGBS to enhance managerial skills in the industry. Hon. Awuku urged the UGBS maintenance team to ensure the generator’s longevity. “We hope you assign someone to liaise with us on the maintenance schedule. One thing we are not too good at as a country is maintenance, so please help ensure this asset serves its purpose,” he advised.

Prof. Bawole, in his vote of thanks, reiterated the significance of the generator set, noting its impact on students. “This generator will serve many generations. Most UG students use UGBS lecture rooms for night studies, and this will ensure uninterrupted academic activities,” he stated. After the unveiling and handover, the Anointed Electrical Engineering Services team demonstrated how the generator works and provided a technical overview. They assured attendees that the generator is waterproof and of high quality, capable of meeting the school’s energy needs. The UGBS community expressed appreciation to the NLA for the impactful donation, reinforcing the partnership’s vision to advance education and societal development.
