Marist University Explores Partnership With the University of Ghana Business School
On Monday, 4th August 2025, the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) welcomed a delegation from Marist University, New York, at the Dean’s Office to explore potential avenues for academic collaboration between the two institutions. Prof. Gavin Webb, Dean of International Programmes at Marist University, noted that UGBS's pursuit of AACSB accreditation was a key factor in Marist’s interest in partnering with UGBS. As an AACSB-accredited institution, Marist University recognises the value of aligning with schools that share similar academic standards. According to him, this partnership will be a strategic opportunity to address the gap in U.S. international education, where less than 3% of American students travel to Africa as part of their academic experiences.
Prof. Elikplimi Agbloyor, UGBS International Relations Coordinator, outlined several areas of collaboration, including student and faculty exchange programmes, study tours, research partnerships, faculty promotion and assessment processes, and Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) initiatives designed to promote joint virtual classroom experiences across continents.
Prof. Webb also introduced Marist’s Detachment Programmes, which allow faculty from any department to design a course delivered during the spring semester, followed by a two-week international travel experience to deepen learning. He expressed interest in partnering with UGBS to offer internship opportunities in Ghana for Marist students, providing immersive, real-world exposure.
In response, Prof. Ernest Tweneboah Koduah, Dean of UGBS, welcomed the collaboration and reaffirmed the school’s commitment to exploring mutually beneficial opportunities. He emphasised UGBS’s interest in identifying key areas of strategic alignment and building a sustainable partnership. Both institutions concluded the meeting with a shared commitment to continuing discussions and working toward formalising the collaboration.
