UGBS Mentoring and Student Services Unit Empowers Students in a Reflection Seminar
The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) Mentoring and Student Services Unit held a reflection seminar to empower students, themed "Setting the Foundation for Living a High-Flying Life in and outside Campus." The seminar, held at the R.S Amegashie Auditorium, featured Mr. Oscar Onai, an economist, strategy consultant, and president of the Onai Foundation, as the guest speaker.
Mr. Onai emphasised the importance of achieving one's vision, stressing that "achieving one's vision requires brainstorming, innovative strategies, identifying actions and opportunities, and taking bold steps immediately." He also taught the students about personal goal setting, explaining the significance of short, medium, and long-term goals. "Be specific with your goals; they should be measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely," he advised.
The speaker highlighted the power of thought, noting that "thought significantly shapes actions and behaviours." He introduced affirmation as a tool for positive thinking, emphasising the importance of a growth mindset. Mr. Onai also discussed values and how to integrate them into academic life, adding self-awareness and self-identity. "Getting to know oneself helps to set clearer goals," he said. "Self-awareness helps to manage stress and challenges and career planning."
Throughout the seminar, Mr. Onai encouraged students to be proactive in setting their foundations for success. "Take bold steps immediately, don't wait for opportunities to come to you," he urged.
The seminar concluded with a question-and-answer session, where students engaged with Mr. Onai. Mrs. Ageline Ankrah, the MSSU Officer, was also present.
