UGBS hosts the President of FCMA, CGMA and CIMA

A delegation from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) visited the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) to engage with both faculty and students. The delegation was led by Ms. Sarah Ghosh, FCMA, CGMA, President of CIMA and Co-Chair of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, Ms. Tariro Mutizwa, Regional Vice President of AICPA and CIMA, Africa, along with other executives from CIMA Ghana.

During a meeting with the faculty, Prof. Emmanuel Sarpong-Kumankoma, Head of the Department of Finance, welcomed the team and highlighted UGBS's significant contribution to the professional accounting field in collaboration with CIMA.

Ms. Ghosh expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome and emphasised the importance of the partnership between CIMA and UGBS, noting that UGBS students receive a 70 percent discount on CIMA's professional programmes. Again, she was hopeful that the partnership would continue forever. All other faculty members shared excitement over the partnership and the visit.

Ms. Ghosh also engaged with students at the R. S. Amegashie Auditorium, where she discussed CIMA's journey and the evolving future of finance, focusing on the transition from cost to value in the digital age. The theme of the discussions was "Seize the Future: Sustainability, Innovation, and Inclusion." She encouraged students to develop advanced technology and value creation skills and consider enrolling in CIMA's programmes to gain relevant qualifications for the next five to ten years.

Ms. Ghosh explained the CIMA professional qualification and their Finance Leadership Programme, aimed at accelerating professionals' careers. The delegation also donated books to support student development.

Dr. Teddy Ossei Kwakye, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accounting, urged students to take advantage of the offer and utilise the donated books, which will be available in the school’s library. The event concluded with a question-and-answer session.
