UGBS Faculty Gathers at Peninsula Resort for Annual Retreat
The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) held its annual faculty retreat from September 25th to 29th, 2024, at the Peninsula Resort & Golf Club in Akosombo. The retreat featured a blend of educational and recreational activities, offering faculty members a chance to reflect, relax, and plan for the upcoming academic year.
Prof. Justice Bawole, Dean of UGBS, welcomed faculty members during an evening gathering upon arrival. He emphasised the importance of the retreat in providing much-needed relaxation and fostering connections among faculty members from all departments. “It’s a priority, and I want to recognise you for your hard work. We work so hard and deserve the best,” he stated.
Prof. Bawole also expressed gratitude to the former Provost of the College of Humanities, Prof. Daniel Ofori for supporting faculty promotions within the Business School. He touched on the need to effectively manage the school’s resources while balancing responsibilities to other university departments that may rely on UGBS for support.
Key issues he raised included efforts to manage class size, development of the ongoing infrastructure, and renovations. Prof. Bawole further addressed concerns about conference and research grants, noting that funding remains one of the biggest challenges faced by the school. Other topics included the moderation of exam questions and scripts, as well as programme accreditation, all of which are essential for maintaining the high standards of the Business School.
During the retreat, participants engaged in various activities, including hiking, tennis, badminton, karaoke, live band performances, swimming, and a canopy walk. Additionally, departmental meetings and discussions on the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation took place, as well as reflections on existing policies, feedback collection, and projections for the new academic year.
