UGBS EMBA STUDENTS VISIT UNILEVER GHANA PLC FACTORY

As part of the UGBS initiative to bridge the gap between academia and practical business experiences, the EMBA students embarked on an educational trip at the Unilever Ghana PLC (Learning Center) in Tema, Accra on Friday, 16th February 2024. The Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) programme is an advanced business degree programme designed for professionals with 2 to 5 years of working experience in their careers. The factory engagement was also an opportunity to enrich the programme's curriculum.

Upon arrival, the students were welcomed by Mr. Henry Malm, the Head of Communications and Sustainability at Unilever Ghana. The company’s security team conducted safety induction with the students as part of the company’s prerequisite protocols for visitors and to ensure their preparedness for the educational experience. Furthermore, the students were grouped into two for a tour of the various factories. Each group led by team representatives of the company was taken through factory processing on the preparation and packaging of the company’s products such as Geisha soap, Key Soap and more. The students also had the opportunity to ask questions concerning consumer product preferences, manufacturing defects and more. The Unilever tour guides also used the opportunity to emphasise some stringent rules and regulations adhered to by the company’s staff.

Further, a captivating video presentation about the company unfolded, shedding light on the mission and vision of Unilever Ghana PLC in the country. Later, Mr. George Owusu-Ansah, Managing Director and Executive Director at Unilever Ghana PLC had a presentation about the company's financial and business performance within five years from, 2019 to 2023 and indicated how customers are prioritised. A question-and-answer session was allowed, providing students with insights into Unilever’s strategies and operations.

In attendance also was Mr. Mario Nartey, the EMBA Programmes Administrator together with two members of the UGBS faculty, Dr. Justice Mensah, and Dr. Saviour Ayertey Nubuor, Senior lecturers at the Department of Organisation and Human Resource Management. The UGBS EMBA students further expressed heartfelt appreciation to Miss Freda Mensah, Communications Officer, and facilitator of the trip and the entire Unilever Ghana team. The tour concluded with a get-together party at the Serenity Beach Resort.
