British Council Delegation Visits the UGBS Innovation and Incubation Hub
A delegation from the British Council and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) recently visited the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) to strengthen collaboration and support initiatives aimed at enhancing youth employability and entrepreneurship. Led by Prof. Justice N. Bawole, Dean of UGBS, the welcoming committee comprised heads of various departments and lecturers who acknowledged the significance of the partnership with the British Council in advancing educational and developmental goals.
Discussing challenges related to employability, mindset, and entrepreneurship among young adults, Prof. Bawole mentioned financial constraints as a hindrance to development initiatives and expressed the need for collaborative efforts with the British Council to provide support. Emphasising UGBS's role in national development, he noted the importance of extending assistance to other universities to maximize their potential.
Mr. David R.W. Thompson, Director of UK & External Relations at the British Council, commended UGBS for its ambition and expressed gratitude for the warm reception. He outlined the purpose of their visit, which included managing interactions with the government and public sector institutions to address shared challenges as partners. The discussions further revolved around potential collaborations between British educational institutions and UGBS to enhance engagement and address the skills gap. Mr. Thompson assured Prof. Bawole of their commitment to prioritising UGBS as a partner in these endeavours.
As partners of the UGBS Incubation and Innovation Hub, the delegation was given a tour of the facilities to assess progress and innovations. Dr. George Acheampong, the hub's coordinator, provided insights into its activities and objectives, while Mr. Oliver K. Aggrey, the hub manager, elaborated on the curriculum and training programmes offered. During the visit, students shared their experiences, and teams involved in the Innovation for African Universities Programme (IAU) presented their projects. The delegation lauded the hub's development and achievements, exploring avenues for further support and collaboration to address identified needs.
