George Acheampong

George Acheampong is an enterprise lecturer and researcher with extensive knowledge of local economy issues in many parts of Ghana and Africa. He currently teaches entrepreneurship at The University of Ghana Business School fulltime. He is the local (Ghana) lead of a project on Port Efficiency that seeks to facilitate international business through the Tema Port. He is currently, the track chair of the Africa’s Competitiveness in Global Markets for the African Academy of International Business. He also leads the Africa Lab for Enterprise Development (Africa LED) that investigates how enterprise dynamics can drive development in Africa. In the past, he has served as entrepreneurship adjunct faculty at the Ashesi University College, Methodist University College Ghana and the Nobel International Business School all in Accra. He has also worked as a PhD intern with the United Nations University-World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) in Helsinki, Finland developing a working paper on the benefits of social capital to SMEs in rural Ghana. He has held visiting PhD fellowships with the Development Economics Research Group at the University of Copenhagen and the Center of Entrepreneurship of the Muma Business College of the University of South Florida, Tampa. He is the faculty advisor for ENACTUS-UG, AIESEC-UG and SAGE Ghana. He has also served as juror and trainer for several entrepreneurship competitions for young people including the Total Startupper Challenge. He has been working to bring social and economic change to communities in Africa through market-based approaches to development. He has worked with organisations such as Sunbariwa Sheabutter Producers, Dormaa Poultry Farmers Association, Tano South Pepper Farmers and Tease Mango Nurseries Association. These projects have been funded by development partners such as DANIDA, DFID and USAID serving as both monitor and business service provider. He has also worked with large corporations seeking to contribute to African development in mapping and developing key stakeholders in their localities. He ahs also consulted for several organizations in Ghana such as AngloGold Ashanti, Ghana Post, Barclays Ready to Work Programme, Ministry of Business Development, Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Comsys, Victory Bible Church and The BUSAC Fund.
