University Council Approves Promotions of Dr. Acheampong Owusu and Dr. Amewu to the rank of Associate Professors

The University of Ghana (UG) Appointments Board, at its meetings held on 15th April and 13th May 2025, on behalf of the Council, has approved the promotion of Dr. Acheampong Owusu and Dr. Amewu to the rank of Associate Professors. Prof. Acheampong Owusu holds a PhD in Information Systems with a focus on Business Intelligence Systems from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Malaysia, while Prof. Godfred Amewu holds a PhD in Finance from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.


Prof. Acheampong Owusu, is with the Department of Operations and Management Information Systems (OMIS) at UGBS.  He holds an MSc. in .NET Distributed Systems Development from the University of Hull, UK, and a BSc. in Computer Science from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. Before joining the OMIS Department, Prof. Owusu served as the Head of the ICT Unit (Network Systems Administrator) at UGBS, where he led the design and implementation of the school’s computer networks and systems. He also made significant contributions to the development of the University of Ghana Computing Systems (UGCS). His research interests span the diffusion of Information Technologies, Digital Platforms, Business Intelligence Systems, ICT4D, and more. He has presented at international conferences such as AMCIS and ICICT and published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. Prof. Owusu serves as an Associate Editor and Editorial Board Member for several academic journals and is a member of the Association for Information Systems (AIS).


Prof. Amewu is also with the Department of Finance at UGBS. He holds an MSc. in Finance from the University of St Andrews (UK) and an Honours degree in Mathematics from KNUST. Before joining the school, he was a Senior Lecturer at the GIMPA Business School, where he trained students, public servants, and development professionals from across Africa. He also served as Co-ordinator for the GIMPA Centre for Impact Investing (GCII), supporting projects in investments, performance measurement, and research.


Prof. Amewu is a leading figure in the development of impact investing as an asset class in Africa. He collaborates with institutions such as the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) and several international donor organisations. He is also an associate at various development think tanks and academic institutions and regularly provides policy advice and consulting services to governments, international organisations, and corporations.
