UGBS Sends Off Inaugural Cohort of ABS Project Scholarship Students to Copenhagen Business School
In a major milestone for international academic collaboration, the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), in partnership with Copenhagen Business School (CBS), has officially sent off its inaugural cohort of scholarship recipients under the Africa, Business and Society (ABS) Programme. The ABS Programme is a DKK 35.9 million initiative funded by DANIDA under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Knowledge and Innovation Programme (KIP) 2025. Within this framework, UGBS serves as a primary African partner alongside the University of Johannesburg (South Africa) and the University of Nairobi (Kenya).
The first beneficiaries from UGBS: Ms. Priscilla Enam Agbenyo and Mr. Samuel Ntiamoah, both Bachelor of Arts in Administration graduates, are preparing to begin a two-year academic journey in Denmark. They will pursue a fully funded Master of Science (MSc) in Business and the Global South at CBS, covering tuition, travel, and living expenses. Their departure follows a high-profile, two-day visit by a CBS delegation to the University of Ghana on January 27, 2026. The visit commenced with a courtesy call on the Dean of UGBS, Prof. Ernest Tweneboah-Koduah, at the UGBS New Conference Room, marking the official launch of a multi-year partnership designed to advance global business research and education. Highlighting the project’s core ethos, Prof. Lisa Ann Richey (CBS) emphasized that the ABS initiative moves away from traditional one-way capacity building. Instead, it recognizes the strong research and teaching capabilities of African partner institutions, prioritizing equal collaboration, joint research, and two-way student mobility.
To ensure a smooth transition for the departing students, the Ghana Project Team led by Prof. Aminu Sanda, Lead PI, organized an initial orientation session featuring alumni who had previously benefited from DANIDA scholarships. These alumni provided the scholars with firsthand advice on navigating academic life and cultural nuances during their studies in Denmark. Following the initial orientation, the Recruitment Coordinator for the Ghana Team, Prof. Sheena Lovia Boateng, alongside Prof. Obi Berko Damoah, accompanied the scholars on an official visit to the Embassy of Denmark in Ghana. The delegation interacted directly with officials at the embassy, including Ms. Elisabeth Loewe, Sector Counsellor, Statistics, with whom they discussed the strategic goals of the programme and the crucial role that the students will play as academic and cultural ambassadors abroad.
