UGBS 1994 Alumni Year Group Holds Breakfast Meeting with Students as Part of Management Week Celebration

The 1994 Year Group of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) held a breakfast engagement with students on 14th July 2025 at the R. S. Amegashie Auditorium. As part of the official sponsors for the 45th Management Celebration, the alumni aimed to provide mentorship, share life experiences, and equip students with the knowledge needed to navigate life and career successfully. The session featured distinguished alumni who offered insightful guidance on personal branding, career planning, and professional development.

Prof. Robert Ebo Hinson, Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship, introduced students to the concept of a self-brand plan, urging them to make deliberate efforts towards shaping their identities. He encouraged students to use their time wisely, plan their lives gradually, and work diligently to reach their full potential. He spoke about the importance of building meaningful relationships, identifying one’s passion, and understanding what one wishes to be known for. “Polish your social presence,” he advised.

Mr. William Kwasi Sabi, a former Member of Parliament for the Dormaa East Constituency and a UGBS alumnus, shared his journey and inspired students to be the best versions of themselves. He recounted how a coursemate, whom he barely knew, recommended him for his first job, explaining the importance of good character even among peers. Mr. Sabi also emphasised proper grooming and dressing, commending UGBS for upholding standards in appearance. He encouraged students to assess themselves, explore innovative ideas for generating additional income, and reflect critically on the theories taught in class, as these opportunities can lead to future success.

Dr. Frederick Kwesi Blay, Deputy Director at the Bank of Ghana, shared how the values instilled in him by UGBS had positively influenced his life. He advised students to develop good attitudes, network purposefully, and start thinking about business ideas that could eventually be sold to companies. “Even if life has already been mapped out for you as a young person, still strive for more,” he advised. He also emphasised the importance of integrity, managing leisure time wisely, and developing soft skills and personal growth traits beyond the classroom. Dr. Blay encouraged students to take their studies seriously to make lasting impacts at school and beyond.

Mr. Kobina Nyamekye Eshun, an Accounts Officer and seasoned banking professional, inspired students to understand themselves and recognise the environments in which they would thrive best. He encouraged them to build networks with more experienced individuals and shared how he established his consultancy through strategic networking. Drawing on over two decades of experience, he advised students to combine intellect with emotional intelligence, skills, and people management to excel in their careers. “Have a roadmap to guide your life and employment journey,” he added.

The session concluded with a lively question-and-answer segment where students sought further insights on career development and life planning.
