Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC Appoints UGBS Professor of Finance as Independent Non-Executive Director

Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC has announced the appointment of three Independent Non-Executive Directors, including Prof. Vera Ogeh Fiador, a distinguished Associate Professor of Finance at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS). Prof. Fiador's appointment took effect on 31st May, following approval from the Bank of Ghana. Alongside her, Mr. Jonathan Prince Cann and Mr. Joseph Yaw Asumang joined the Board on 24th June 2024. 

These appointments come in the wake of the retirement of Mr. Charles William Zwennes, Mr. Paul King Aryene, and Mr. Ebenezer Tetteh Tagoe, who have completed their regulatory tenure of nine years. The newly appointed directors are expected to bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the Board.

Their extensive experience and diverse skill sets will be invaluable as we continue to execute our strategic initiatives and enhance our service delivery to our valued customers.” 

Prof. Fiador is renowned for her extensive service on several corporate boards. She currently serves as a Director and Senior Consultant with Madeolo Consult, a Management Consulting and Training firm. Her current consulting engagements span corporate business strategy, financial strategy, climate budgeting, environmental and social risk management, and associated training interventions. Additionally, she has developed and mounted several training programmes targeted at small businesses. 

As a member of the African Economic Research Consortium, Prof. Fiador was also a Visiting Scholar at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, DC. She holds the distinction of being the first female professor of finance in Ghana. Prof. Fiador is an alumna of Holy Child School, Cape Coast, and Ministry of Health Basic School, Korle Bu (Accra). 

In her academic role at UGBS, Prof. Fiador holds a PhD in Finance from the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town, South Africa. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate-level courses in the Department of Finance, focusing on corporate governance, corporate finance, gender diversity, enterprise risk management, and environmental and social risk management. She has numerous peer-reviewed publications and has consulted for reputable entities such as GIZ, IFC, SNV, OPM-GOGIG, KAIPTC, and NBSSI. Prof. Fiador has also delivered capacity-building programmes for banks in Ghana.
