UGBS Honours Retiring Staff and Faculty at a Ceremony
The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) held a ceremony on 30th July 2026 at the Graduate Building to honour staff and faculty members proceeding on retirement. Five members were recognised as part of this batch of retirees. In addition, two colleagues who were being transferred from the Business School to other departments within the University were also acknowledged. The retirees were Prof. Mohammed Aminu Sanda, Prof. Stephen Mahama Braimah, Mr. Ebenezer Kwadjo Pobi, Ms. Salomey Ann Adofoli, and Mr. Edmund Nsiah Laryea.
Addressing the gathering, the Dean of UGBS, Prof. Ernest Tweneboah-Koduah, noted that 31st July marked the last official working day at the University for the retiring staff. Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah commended the retirees for their hard work and dedication, acknowledging the demanding pace of work at the Business School and describing them as central to the school’s success. To the two staff members being transferred to other departments, the Dean urged them to carry the ethics and standards of UGBS with them into their new roles, encouraging them to continue to “perform” in their new departments.
He also reassured the faculty members among the retirees that they were simply “changing their boots” rather than leaving for good, reflecting their continued association with the school. He explained, however, that the nature of retirement differs between faculty and administrative staff. According to him, faculty members who retire are “not going away completely”, as many will continue to be associated with the school in some capacity for a period of time. He therefore urged the UGBS community to pray for their continued good health and long life so that they would still be able to join the school from time to time. Administrative staff, on the other hand, retire completely from the University.

The Dean used the occasion to announce a new benefits policy introduced at the management level. Going forward, any staff member who retires from UGBS after serving for 10 years or more will receive a television set and a refrigerator as part of their retirement package. He explained that the policy was prompted by the recent transfer of two long-serving staff members to other departments within the University, a development that had not previously occurred. Since the two transferred colleagues had served for many years without expecting a transfer, Management decided to formalise the benefit for future retirees who meet the service threshold.
On behalf of all the retirees, Prof. Stephen Mahama Braimah delivered a vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to the Dean, Management, and all UGBS staff for their support over the years. He assured the school that the retirees would continue to support UGBS in all the ways they could and pledged to exhibit good ethics wherever they found themselves, in honour of the school. The ceremony was climaxed with a celebration featuring food, drinks, and dancing as the UGBS community celebrated the retirees and their years of dedicated service.
