University of Ghana Business School wins the prestigious Chartered Global Management Accountants (CGMA) Professional Award, Africa
The International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA) announced the University of Ghana Business School as the winner of the ‘CGMA Leadership Award’ at the first edition of the AICPA, CIMA & CGMA Professional Awards, Africa ceremony in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 24 November 2023.
On Wednesday, 31st January, a delegation from CGMA, AICPA & CIMA presented the awards to the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) for their outstanding contribution to Africa's finance and accounting profession.
The Dean of UGBS, Prof. Justice N. Bawole expressed gratitude on behalf of the school and encouraged the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) to be proactive especially with the graduate students to enhance professionalism. Again, he encouraged them to have exhibition events on campus to train students impacting quality qualifications.
Mr. Paul Ahinakwa, the CGMA Country Director for Ghana, Benin, and Sierra Leon noted that more students are signing onto CIMA ever since the introduction of discounts for UGBS students. He added that the professional training will enhance students’ career and employability.
According to CGMA, over 190 applications and nominations from educational institutions, businesses, and individuals in Ghana, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, were submitted for consideration in four categories. These were the CGMA Leadership Award, CGMA Sustainability Award, CGMA Employability Award, and CGMA Culture Award and UGBS won the CGMA Leadership Awards.
The CGMA Professional Awards Africa recognises the outstanding work done by businesses, universities, educators, CGMA candidates, and CIMA members going above and beyond to shape the future to advance the accounting and finance profession and nurture the next generation of leaders throughout the African continent.
