MSSU holds Orientation Sessions for Fresh Undergraduate Students

The Mentoring and Students’ Services Unit (MSSU) at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) organised an orientation session for Level 100 students. The event, held on Friday, 2nd February at the R.S Amegashie Auditorium of UGBS, aimed to address mentoring issues.
Mrs. Ageline Ankrah, the MSSU Officer, led the conversation by explaining the responsibilities of the Mentorship and Students’ Unit. She noted that young adults may experience some challenges either emotionally, mentally, physically, or socially and guidance becomes a necessity at that point hence the MSSU provides such advice and mentorship opportunities to help young adults make informed and better decisions. Again, she said that these challenges of adulthood can affect students’ academic work, so MSSU gives such directions and motivations to navigate through such stages. She encouraged all freshmen to engage in extracurricular activities since that gives them exposure to many things including networking, the world of work and most importantly social life and relationships. She concluded that the mentorship unit is always available to guide students.

Mr. Godfred Baah, the coordinator for Bachelor of Arts (BA) students at UGBS, outlined the contents of the various courses during the 4-year programme. He provided insights into courses that could be dropped or combined and guided students on selecting major programmes. Mr. Baah also emphasised the importance of professional courses for increased job employability.

Mr. David Tetteh Odjeawo, the UGBS Librarian encouraged students to utilise the library system both on and off-campus. He explained library rules, introduced the online catalogue for educational assistance, and guided students on accessing course materials in the various school libraries. Additionally, he detailed reference libraries and paid libraries.

The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Hon. Lydia Alhassan attended the orientation along with constituency officials. She welcomed and advised students to add value to themselves and embrace opportunities beyond schoolwork. Hon. Alhassan also introduced the 'Maa Lydia Grab a Skill Programme,' focusing on imparting skill sets to young adults. All the speakers allowed a question-and-answer session after their discussions.

Some of the student leaders from UGBS continued the sessions teaching the fresh students about some necessities like educational programme sites, lecture slides and videos, Assignments, Course registration, about ChatUGBS and the IT labs.
