Dean’s Time with Level 100 Students
The Dean of the University of Ghana Business School, Prof. Justice N. Bawole, hosted an engaging session with level 100 students on 8th March 2024, at the R.S Amegashie Auditorium. The purpose of the meeting was to familiarise the students with campus life, understand their experiences thus far, and inspire them for the academic journey ahead.
Prof. Bawole commenced the session by introducing himself and outlining the objectives of the gathering. Drawing from his life experiences, he advised the students emphasising on the significance of their enrolment in the premier Business School and urging them to take pride in it. He encouraged the students to actively participate in various campus activities, including gatherings, training sessions, and seminars, underscoring the importance of mentorship, personal growth, and making a positive impact on society. Prof. Bawole urged the students to prioritise their academic pursuits, advising against engaging in exam malpractice and stressing the value of hard work and dedication in securing scholarships for further education.
Additionally, he emphasised the importance of forming meaningful relationships with faculty members for a supportive academic journey specifically for reference letters after school. He further advised them to make good friends who can impact their lives positively now and in the future. “Learn to live peacefully with each other, and support others who may need academic assistance to grow together,” he added. Prof. Bawole also highlighted the significance of financial management, personal hygiene, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
During the session, the Dean introduced students to various campus resources, including the laptop library, UGBS Nest, UG hospital, and opportunities for international exposure through network weeks. He also advised them to reach out to the Student Financial Aid Office for scholarship opportunities like the Axis Pensions, and the partnership with Pepsodent, their role of supporting students and improving lives and education.
A question-and-answer session allowed students to express their views, while representatives from the UGBS Nest provided information on the hub's activities and opportunities for student involvement. Present also at the meeting were the School Administrator, Mr. Emmanuel Poku-Sarkodee and the UGBS librarian, Mr. David Tetteh Odjeawo.
