30 UGBS Students receive Scholarships from the Maiden Axis Pensions Young Scholars Fellowship Awards.

Thirty students of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) have been awarded a scholarship worth GH¢200,000 by the Axis Pensions Young Scholars Fellowship Awards Scheme. The beneficiaries are expected to receive a little over GH¢6,600 each, every academic year to cater for tuition, accommodation fees and semester stipend.

The scholarship targeted brilliant and needy students with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 and above and was awarded to seven females (7) and twenty- three (23) males after a series of interviews and thorough scrutiny. The scheme includes student development programmes, such as career and skills training, internship opportunities and mentorship.

The event which happened at the R.S. Amegashie Auditorium was honoured with the presence of the  Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Development, Prof. Felix Ankomah Asante, the Provost of the College of Humanities, Prof. Daniel Frimpong Ofori, the Dean of the University of Ghana Business School, Prof. Justice Nyigmah Bawole, CEO of Axis Pensions, Mr. Afriyie Oware as well as the Board Chair of Axis Pensions Trust Limited, Mr. Ernest Kusi-Ababio.
In a brief welcome address by the Dean of UGBS, Prof. Bawole, he extended appreciation to Axis Pensions for reaching out and expressed gratitude on behalf of the entire institution.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Chair of the event also complimented Axis Pensions saying, “I would like to express our profound gratitude to Axis Pension for their visionary leadership and generosity in supporting this worthy cause. This time we did not even have to come but you came to us and that is truly remarkable”.
In acknowledging Axis Pensions Group, she called on other corporate institutions to support underprivileged students to also have access to quality education which will contribute to society, drive economic growth and propel positive change for the future.

For his part, the Board Chairman of Axis Pensions Trust, Mr. Ernest Kusi Ababio, disclosed that the award scheme forms part of the Axis Pension Group’s corporate social responsibility to ease the financial constraints of students.
He added that the beneficiaries would represent the firm's brand and serve as agents of positive change, champion financial literacy education and inspire a culture of savings in their communities.

Emerging as the first cohort of the awards scheme, the Provost of the College of Humanities, Prof. Daniel Frimpong Ofori, charged the scholars to embrace the responsibilities that accompany their educational costs and expenses, urging them to “make a difference.”

The event concluded with an appreciation speech by one of the awardees, Mawuena Abena Dossah and a vote of thanks by the Student Representative Council (SRC) President of the University of Ghana, Frank Tsikata.
