Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter Society engages UGBS Insurance Students

The Insurance Students Association (ISA) of UGBS, hosted a delegation from the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter Society (CPCU) at the R.S Amegashie Auditorium on 10th May 2024. The purpose of the engagement was to develop collaboration with academics and industry and was facilitated by Ms. Constance Afrane Addo and Mr. Manasseh Obediah Ghartey, ISA members. 

In His delivery, Mr. Bernard Akyin-Arkoh, Branch Manager, Star Assurance- Ghana stated that professionals must be prepared with both knowledge and ethical development, and programmes like those run by the CPCU Society could contribute to the development of a community that values integrity and professionalism. 

Ms. Traci Adedeji, President of the CPCU Society- 2024, demonstrated how she was solely concerned with increasing her income at a point in her professional life. She added that it was only after she began studying for her CPCU that she realised her influence as a CPCU Society member. 

As an underwriting expert, Ms. Adedeji enumerated insurance benefits for individuals and companies, emphasising how it helps small families cover their expenses. She highlighted the importance of acting morally even when no one is observing, citing responsibilities to uphold ethics in all facets of the profession. 

Additionally, Mr. Rajesh Narayan Sr. Director for Analyst Gartner Inc- USA, spoke on how modern technology is transforming the insurance industry by enabling the automation of labour-intensive processes. He added that technology can advance a career if accepted and owned. He also highlighted important lessons, such as the necessity of using data to inform all decisions and using technology to measure business results. 

Finally, Mr. Justice Peprah Agyei, President of the CPCU-Western Regional Manager- NIC West African Chapter, urged students to be members of the CPCU Society, as membership is free. In attendance also were Atinuke Adedeji, AINS - Amica Insurance, and Nada Ashong ACIIG, MCMI - Deputy Area Manager. 

An engaging Question-Answer session followed while Mr. Peter Dennis, Branch Manager, Star Assurance- Ghana gave the final remarks.
