Joshua Yindenaba Abor

Joshua Yindenaba Abor is a Financial Economist and Professor of Finance with expertise in development finance and economics research, as well as in senior–level practitioner, policy and consulting roles. He is the first professor at the University of Ghana Business School and a former Dean of the School. He holds a PhD in Finance from Stellenbosch University, South Africa after completing the PhD coursework in Financial Economics at the Department of Economics, Harvard University, USA. He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), UK. He is an External Fellow at the Centre for Global Finance, SOAS University of London, UK, an Adjunct Professor of Development Finance at Stellenbosch University, an Adjunct Professor in Monetary and Financial Economics at the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies, Ghana, and was a Visiting Professor of Finance at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He is a researcher with the African Economic Research Consortium, and a member of the Global Research Network (GRN) (Global Financial Architecture work stream). He is also a member of the American Economic Association, the Canadian Economic Association, the Economic Society of South Africa, and a Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.

He contributes to the finance and financial economics literature, mainly in the areas of banking, monetary policy, development finance, financial market development, FinTech and financial inclusion, SME Finance, private sector development, corporate finance and governance, international finance and trade, and international financial flows and growth. He has several articles in these areas in reputable international journals. Joshua is a Senior Consultant at the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development, where he previously served as Senior Research Consultant. He was a Consultant and Senior Research Fellow at the African Export–Import Bank (Afreximbank) and has also held Visiting Scholar positions at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), USA. He is a Director and Senior Consultant with the Corporate Support Group (a management, financial and economic consulting firm), and has consulted for a number of international and local institutions including, the International Development Cooperation, the World Bank, International Finance Corporation (IFC), African Development Bank (AfDB), SNV Netherlands Development Organisation, French Development Agency, Italian Development Cooperation, ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID), Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), Uganda Development Bank Ltd (UDB), British Council, South Africa’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, ActionAid, OXFAM, Societe Generale, Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), BOST, GOIL PLC, GOENERGY, GPHA, VALCO and GNPC Explorco.

He serves on the boards of Ghana Investment and Securities Institute (GISI) and University of Ghana Enterprises Ltd. (UGEL), and chairs the boards of Internal Audit Agency, Oasis Capital Ghana Ltd. and Macro Shipping Ltd. He chaired the boards of SIC Life Company Ltd., Allianz Life Insurance Ltd., SAS Investment Management Ltd. and Best Western Premier Hotel, and served on the Governing Council of the National Banking College. He is a member of the Domestic Credit Rating Agency Implementation Committee, and a member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of Ghana.
