Nova School of Business and Economics Explores Partnership with UGBS Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship

The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) on 6th November 2025, hosted representatives from the Nova School of Business and Economics (Nova SBE), Portugal, to discuss possible areas of collaboration with the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship.

The Nova SBE delegation comprised Prof. Catherine da Silveira, Associate Dean for International Affairs and Partnerships, and Ms. Alice Caetano, Project Manager at the Data Operations and Technology Knowledge Centre at Nova SBE. They met with Prof. Mahmoud Abdulai Mahmoud, Head of the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship, and Prof. Sheena Lovia Boateng, Coordinator for the Executive MBA and Weekend MBA Marketing programmes at the Department.

The visit sought to explore partnership opportunities between Nova SBE and UGBS in the areas of Hospitality, Tourism, and Sustainability. The discussions focused on enhancing the MSc. Hospitality and Tourism Management programme, collaborative research projects, among students and faculty of both institutions, as well as identifying other key areas for mutual learning and collaboration.

Prof. Mahmoud expressed appreciation for the initiative and emphasised its relevance to the Department’s vision. He noted that such a partnership would strengthen the Department’s programmes and research initiatives, particularly in the areas of Hospitality, Tourism and Sustainability. He further drew attention to a pressing national issue, the deterioration of Ghana’s tourism sector as a result of illegal mining activities, posing the thought-provoking question, “What can academia do to support and curb the situation?”

Looking ahead, both institutions agreed to hold further online engagements to refine the collaboration framework. The partnership is expected to culminate in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UGBS and Nova SBE. Prof. Boateng will work closely with Ms. Caetano to define the modalities, expected benefits, and measurable impacts of the partnership for both institutions.
