UGBS Department of Organisation and Human Resource Management and Project Management Institute Ghana Signs MoU

The University of Ghana Business School Department of Organisation and Human Resource Management (OHRM) and the Project Management Institute (PMI) Ghana officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 14th July 2025 to strengthen collaboration in project management education and practice at the Graduate School.

The Head of the Department of OHRM, Prof. Damoah Obi Berko, expressed his pleasure to see the MoU between the Department of OHRM and PMI Ghana being brought to life. Prof. Berko raised that project management remains underrepresented in national discourse. He mentioned that with the department’s expertise and PMI Ghana’s support, they can work together to promote awareness and professional development across the country. Prof. Berko further expressed optimism that the collaboration will soon gain momentum not only within academia but also across the media and among policymakers.

The president of PMI Ghana, Mr. Frank Owusu-Asamoah, noted that the collaboration is rooted in a shared commitment to excellence, ethical leadership, and national development. Mr. Owusu-Asamoah made it clear that the vision of the MoU is to create a center of leadership and project excellence at the University of Ghana, where students, researchers, and professionals can gain world-class skills in project management underpinned by integrity, accountability, and measurable results. He emphasised that the challenges facing institutions in Ghana cannot be attributed solely to political leadership. Mr. Owusu-Asamoah called on professionals to rise above technical delivery and promote ethical leadership and professional conduct. He expressed his belief that the partnership would not become another agreement gathering dust on a shelf but would be a purposeful collaboration that would contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development agenda.

Provost of the College of Humanities, UG, Prof. Joseph Yaro, commended the collaboration as a significant step toward achieving one of the Business School’s core strategic objectives: building partnerships with industry, the private sector, and government. According to Prof. Yaro, ethical conduct is essential for addressing many of the challenges facing the developing world. He noted that with ethics at the core of this partnership, students will be shaped into knowledgeable and principled professionals that Ghana needs.

On behalf of the Dean of UGBS, Prof. Justice Bawole, as the Chairperson of the ceremony, Prof. Ernest Tweneboah Koduah reaffirmed UGBS’ dedication to fully implementing the newly signed MoU with PMI Ghana. He assured all stakeholders that this partnership would not be left to gather dust on a shelf. He expressed confidence that the partnership will empower students and contribute to the growth of professional project management in Ghana.

The MoU sets out important expectations, such as establishing a student club focused on project management and creating opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to become members of PMI Ghana.
