Donation to the Demonstration School for the Deaf, Mampong (Basic School Division)
As part of the already held 43rd Management Week Celebration, the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) donated a sum of five thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 5000) along with some home essential items to support the running of the Demonstration School for the Deaf at Mampong- Akuapem in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
The donation was led by Dr. Emerald E. Sabah Welbeck, Lecturer at the Department of Accounting and Dr.Sam Edu Abeeku, Lecturer at, the Department of Operations and Management Information Systems, with some students from the University of Ghana Business School. The donation was aimed at supporting the Primary and Junior High School pupils of both the Deaf and Deafblind Units.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the school, the Principal, Mr. Setumte Ametewee highlighted the school's reliance on contributions from the government, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and the public. With 531 students dependent on such support for survival and upkeep, Mr. Ametewee urged the students especially women, to seek medical attention during pregnancy to reduce the occurrence of disabilities.
Dr. Emerald E. Sabah Welbeck thereafter advised all students present to support the school in their little ways whenever they get into positions to help. She added that the University of Ghana has a department for people with disability and expects to welcome some of the students soon.
The UGBS visiting team then had the opportunity to tour the school, explore its skill training facilities, and engage with the students, witnessing their creativity and artwork.
