UGBS Features Mrs. Rita K. Akoto as Alumna of the Month for March
The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) Alumni Association proudly celebrates Mrs. Rita K. Akoto (RN, PON, BSc, MCLAM, FGCNM) as its Alumna of the Month for March, 2026, following her appointment as Chief Nursing Officer at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) in Accra. Mrs. Akoto currently serves as the Head of Nursing and Midwifery at the facility, brings over two decades of extensive experience in healthcare delivery, leadership, and clinical management to her new role. Her appointment reflects her long-standing dedication to advancing patient care and strengthening nursing practice in Ghana.
Mrs. Akoto has built a strong academic and professional profile over the years. She holds a Master of Science in Clinical Leadership and Management from the University of Ghana Business School, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Central University. She further enhanced her expertise with an Advanced Diploma in Peri-operative and Critical Care from Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and completed studies in Health Administration and Management at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
Her professional journey began in 2002 after obtaining her Registered General Nurse (RGN) certification from the Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NMTC), Koforidua. Early in her career, she undertook clinical rotations at St. Dominic’s Hospital, Akwatia, where she gained broad-based experience across key departments, including surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency care, and community health. She is an active member of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), the Ghana Society of Peri-operative Nurses (GHASPON), and a Foundation Fellow of the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives.
Beyond clinical practice, Mrs. Akoto has made significant contributions to healthcare systems strengthening and policy support. She has served as a member of the Technical Advisory Committee for Medical Devices (TAC-MD) at the Food and Drug Authority (FDA) since 2020, contributing to regulatory oversight and healthcare quality assurance. Additionally, she has been actively involved in Tender Evaluation Panels for medical supplies at both facility and regional levels from 2016 to February 2026. Her expertise spans policy implementation, change management, crisis and emergency response, clinical leadership, staff development, patient safety, infection prevention and control, as well as procurement oversight.
Mrs. Akoto’s career is distinguished by her unwavering commitment to professional growth, as evidenced by her regular participation in workshops and training programmes focused on healthcare quality, leadership, and emerging trends in nursing practice. UGBS congratulates Mrs. Rita K.
