ANAN University Business School Visits UGBS for a Benchmarking Exercise

The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) recently hosted a delegation from the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) University Business School, Nigeria, for a benchmarking exercise. The ANAN Business School (ABS) delegation comprised Dr. Abdullahi Ya’u Usman, Executive Director for ABS, and Dr. Stephine Sende Ngumimi, Director of Academic Affairs & Administration at ABS. The programme was coordinated by the UGBS International Relations Office. 

Welcoming the delegation, Prof. Gordon Abekah-Nkrumah from the Department of Health Services Management expressed gratitude to ANAN University Business School for selecting UGBS as a partner in their benchmarking efforts. He provided an overview of UGBS, its impact, range of programmes, student population, and internal structures. Prof. Abekah- Nkrumah also discussed the undergraduate and graduate programmes offered at UGBS, noting that most faculty members hold PhDs, with a majority of our faculty being at the Professorial rank. Additionally, he discussed the school's international, bilateral, and multilateral collaborations. He further spoke about the UGBS Innovation and Incubation Hub, emphasising its role in enhancing student employability. He also touched on research initiatives, support services available to students, programme development and evaluation, curriculum development, and the integration of technology in education. 

Dr. Usman also shared insights into ANAN University Business School, licensed in 2021. He explained that the university was established to produce more professionals in the field of accounting. He noted that ABS focuses more on online education and expressed admiration for UGBS's profile and the desire to collaborate and learn from a top-tier business school. Dr Usman also mentioned that although ANAN University's business school is only two years old, they are eager to adopt practices that are beyond the traditional Nigerian university education paradigm. 

Prof. Elikplimi Komla Agbloyor, Coordinator, International Relations, served as the moderator for the event. He mentioned that the International Relations Unit facilitates global engagement and collaboration. Its key roles include establishing partnerships with foreign universities, businesses, and research institutions for academic exchange, joint programmes, and collaborations. 

Mr. Emmanuel Poku-Sarkodee, the UGBS School Administrator, highlighted the unique facilities and services offered by the business school, including a baby room for student mothers to leave their children while they attend classes. He also discussed the structure and operations of the various UGBS management committees, which oversee all programmes and activities contributing to the school's development. 

Prof. Patience Aseweh Abor, Department of Health Services Management and Coordinator for the Mentoring and Student Services Unit (MSSU) elaborated on the support provided by the MSSU to students. Prof. Abor explained the unit’s service delivery and the effectiveness of its training sessions. Mr. Eric Kemeh, Head of IT at the University of Ghana Business School also delivered a presentation on the business school's online learning platforms and tools, showcasing their functionality and the range of interactive activities designed by lecturers to enhance student engagement. 

Present also for the exercise were Prof. William Coffie and Prof. Mohammed Amidu from the Department of Accounting, Mr. Yaw Tsen Yeboah, Assistant Registrar (HR), Ms. Saratu Salifu, Assistant Registrar (General), Ms. Catherine Emefa Aziaku, Assistant Registrar (Academic Affairs, Undergraduate and Affiliate), and Mr. Alex Crabb, UGBS Accountant. Each shared insights into how their respective departments and units operate, providing valuable information for the visiting delegation.
