UGBS Holds Information Sessions for Prospective Graduate Students
Sep 08, 2022

The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) organised an online information session on its Master’s programmes on Thursday, September 1, 2022. The session was to brief prospective applicants on the various graduate programmes on offer at the school. The session had some members of the School Management’ team and Committee Chairs of the various programmes brief the participants. The session was moderated by Mr. Yaw T. Yeboah, Assistant Registrar, Human Resources, and Dr. Vera Fiador, Senior Lecturer, UGBS.

In a welcome address by Professor Justice Bawole, Dean of UGBS, he noted the school's celebration of 60 years and how the school over those years has touched every nook and cranny of the country, West Africa, Africa, and the rest of the world. The school, he said, is poised to break into the next 60 years, making education more relevant, affordable, and of great quality. Prof. Bawole mentioned the school's membership with several international associations, including the Global Network of Advanced Management. This. He said, enables students to participate and travel to other member schools. He urged the participants to put in an application if they hadn't and assured them that the school takes its students seriously.

Mr. Christopher Eduful Arthur, from the School of Graduate Studies (SGS), briefed the students on the application process. He advised them to avoid abbreviated names, as the name input and wrongly arranged names will appear on their certificate. Mr. Arthur also urged them to key in the correct date of birth, email address, phone number and address; upload a recent and clear picture as the picture will be used for ID and virtual congregation; ensure referees and recommendations provide the correct email address; translate documents in foreign languages other than English; and scan documents to correct and visible formats and sizes.

Subsequently, Mr. Emmanuel Poku-Sarkodee, School Administrator, UGBS, gave the participants general information about the Business School. He spoke about the benefits of choosing UGBS, the programmes offered and their duration, as well as the fees, involved. The programmes offered include Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MSc.), Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA), Master of Philosophy (MPhil), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), he stated. Mr. Poku-Sarkodee further mentioned that the EMBA, which is run in the evenings, and the MBA and MPA, which have regular and weekend options, are two-year programmes, whereas the MSc and MA programmes are one-year programmes. He ended by guiding the participants through how Ghanaian and international applicants can apply.

The committee chairs for the special programmes, Dr. Daniel Quaye, EMBA, Professor Bedman Narteh, Weekend MBA and MPA; and Dr. Vera Fiador, One Year Special Programmes, also briefed prospective applicants on the course structure under each programme. They each stated the admission requirements for their respective programmes, schedules; registration deadlines; as well as the programme's content. This is to help potential applicants make informed decisions.
