The Dean of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), Professor Justice Nyigmah Bawole, joined the Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM) Deans and Directors meeting on Thursday 3rd June 2021 via Zoom.
Participants at the meeting were: Camino De Paz, the Managing Director of Global Initiatives at Yale School of Management; Professor Edward ‘Ted’ Synder, a Professor of Economics and Management at Yale School of Management; Catherine Duggan, Dean of the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business; Professor David Bach, Dean of Innovation and Programmes at The Institute for Management Development; among others. These participants met to offer perspectives on solutions to societal problems that are typically complex and global.
Professor David Bach opined that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused citizens across the globe to live in a state of fear and uncertainty. “This has created a surge in the amount of fake news circulating the internet”, he said. Other participants indicated that governments across various countries need to plan and invest in tools for identifying misinformation and improving online activities. The meeting also addressed fears in the workplaces, especially of those working from home and in the offices. A participant suggested that a major avenue to supporting employees is by creating psychological safety at work, as well as reassuring them of safety.
The meeting ended with a follow-up questions and answers session as well recommendations from participants of the various schools.
