UGBS Alumni Embarks on A Medical Outreach To The Good Shepherd Orphanage
Oct 26, 2021

On Saturday, 16th October, 2021, the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) Alumni Association donated food items and conducted a free medical screening for the Good Shepherd Orphanage located at Kasoa as part of their commitment to giving back to society by supporting children in need.

Mr. Richard Kofi Afenu Esq., the First Vice President of the UGBS Alumni Association, presented a couple of donations on behalf of the Association to Rev. Nimako Boateng, head of the Good Shepherd Orphanage. The items donated included bags of rice, crates of eggs, tissues, toiletries, toys for all the kids, packaged food, biscuits, yoghurts, and first aid medications. Members of the Alumni body also engaged the children in some fun activities whilst observing all the Covid -19 protocols.

Presenting the items to the orphanage, Richard Kofi Afenu Esq. reiterated the Association’s commitment to providing for the underprivileged in the society, especially orphaned children, as they rely on donated items for their daily survival. He said, “this means that if people like us do not come here as often as possible, there is the possibility of food and groceries shortage here”.

Richard Kofi Afenu Esq. also emphasised the need to show love to the less privileged, especially to orphans. “It is very prudent that people realise that giving to loved ones is very important but the greatest gift you can give is to someone who cannot pay you back or reciprocate the love you give them in any way. This form of giving, though may look little in your sight, could change the lives of people forever,” he added.

The free medical screening administered included Health Education, General Consultation, Blood Tests for Hepatitis B, HIV/AIDS, Blood Pressure check, Body Mass Index Assessment, Mass Deworming, Dietary Assessment with Counselling, and Drug & Supplement Administration.

On behalf of the orphanage, Rev. Nimako Boateng expressed his profound appreciation to the UGBS Alumni Association for their kind-heartedness. He described the donation to the orphanage as timely and God-sent, and took the opportunity to call on other organisations to support the cause.
In acknowledgement of a successful project, the UGBS Alumni Association expressed their appreciation to Professor Justice N. Bawole, Dean of UGBS, as well as Professor Joshua Y. Abor, former Dean of the Business School, Ms. Abena Gyesiwaa Owusu, and the 2003 and 2008 UGBS year groups for their generous donations and support.
