The newly-inducted executives of the Business House Junior Common Room (BHJCR) paid a courtesy call on the Dean of the University of Ghana Business School on Wednesday, 13th July 2022. Some Heads of Departments (HODs), as well as the School Administrator (Mr. Emmanuel Poku-Sarkodee), the Assistant Registrars, and the Immediate Past President and Financial Controller of the BHJCR, were present at the meeting.

Giving a brief remark, Prof. Justice N. Bawole, Dean, UGBS, indicated that every position comes with a lot of responsibilities and many times he gets afraid for those who take up these leadership positions because it means a lot and has implications on what class you can even finish with. He congratulated the immediate past executives on behalf of School Management and wished them well in both their academics, career, and future endeavours.

The Dean also congratulated the new executives for winning their respective contests and advised them to keep their administration open and ensure they involve a lot of people, especially those who contested along with them. That way, they will feel a part of the administration and contribute to the execution of projects, the Dean added. He also admonished them to be sustainable and live within the means of what they create. Throughout the discussions, the Dean emphasised the importance of student leadership and urged them to always remember they still have degrees to “bag”. “What you go home with is as important as a student leader”, Prof. Bawole said.

Moving forward, some HODs also added their voice to the conversation. The first was the HoD of Finance, Prof. Charles Andoh, who encouraged the student leaders to budget their time properly so that it’s not just the leadership skills they possess, but that they also do well academically since this is not the end. Prof. Andoh also advised them to treat people well. Additionally, Prof. William Coffie, HoD, Accounting indicated, “It’s always an opportunity to lead, especially for student leaders. You have to be tolerant, nice and kind, but be firm. Let people know your position. Don’t shift goal posts”. He asserted that anytime they refuse to live by standards, they will always mess up people and situations.

Subsequently, the immediate past BHJCR President, Mr. Ebenezer Yeboah, on behalf of his administration, expressed his appreciation to the Dean, HoDs, and Administrators for their support and guidance. He also presented the Dean with a citation of honour as a token of their appreciation. The meeting ended with a visit to the renovated BHJCR Office, a project accomplished by the Ebenezer Yeboah Administration (2021/2022).
