The Mentoring and Students' Services Unit (MSSU) of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) hosted an orientation session for level 100 students at the R.S. Amegashie Auditorium on Friday, January 20, 2023. Mr. Frank Tsikata and Ms. Vanessa Oparebea Akuffo, both Business School level 400 students, moderated the session.
Addressing the students, Ms. Mary Reynolds, facilities officer of UGBS, mentioned that the orientation aimed to help the freshmen familiarise themselves with the facilities at the Business School. Ms. Reynolds also listed some rules that should be followed in using UGBS facilities.
On his part, Mr. David Tetteh Odjeawo, the UGBS Librarian, addressed the students on the Business School's library services as well as those offered by the University in general. In his conclusion, Mr. Odjeawo noted that the UG Library System is now automated, allowing students to access it online while lounging in their dormitories.
Mrs. Angeline Ankrah, a representative of the MSSU spoke to the students about the unit's purpose and the services it offers to students. She reiterated that the students are primarily here for their academics and the purpose of her unit is to ensure that students thrive in their academic work.
Mr. Lowell Acheampong, President of the Business House Junior Common Room (BHJCR), also educated the students on how the BHJCR operates. He informed the students about some of UGBS scholarship options and how to apply for them. He further added that the BHJCR acts as a liaison between management and the student body.
Finally, Mr. Michael Kokoroko of the UGBS Undergraduate Academic office explained the distinction between the BA and a BSc programme. He mentioned that those offering a BA with administration courses now have the option to omit the business school courses if they so desire. In addition, BSc students at level 300 can major in any of the courses they like. He concluded his session by asking them to come to the academic office for help with any course or class problems they are having.
A question-and-answer session facilitated by Mr. Kokoroko marked the conclusion of the orientation.
