UGBS Alumnus of the Month – October 2022

Nana Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo, popularly known as 'Kama' (Excellence) is an accomplished Business Executive, Management Consultant, Inspirational Teacher, Motivational Speaker, Social Worker, an outstanding Elder of the Christian faith, and a revolutionary campaigner on entrepreneurship. He successfully defended his PhD thesis at age 70 in September 2021 at the University of Ghana Business School. His thesis was "the influence of workplace envy and jealousy on entrepreneurial activities".
He has currently been appointed a member of the Election Committee of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) having served as the President for the Ghana Red Cross Society. Nana was awarded an Honorary Life Member of the International Pharmaceutical Students Federation (IPSF) in 1978 in Edinburg UK for his unparalleled contributions to the federation.
Additionally, Nana worked with Phyto Riker, Accra (1978-1979), and Boots Chemist in London, United Kingdom. He became the Production Manager for Wrosubon Pharmaceuticals, Kumasi (1980-1986) before starting his own pharmacy in 1986 with a registered company named, "Kama Group Limited" which has grown and expanded into the well-known Kama Group of Companies having branches all over the country. Kama has merged with Aspen Pharmacare of South Africa.
Nana Dr. Addo has created another conglomerate Mikaddo Holdings with an international standard cGMP facility, Mikaddo Pharmaceutical Manufacturing factory in Tema.
Dr. Addo was enstooled as the Nkabomhene (Chief of Unity) of the New Juaben Traditional Area, which has Koforidua as its capital, in 2016.
In addition to his numerous roles and positions, Nana Dr. Agyekum Addo has served as the National President of the Ghanass Old Student Association (GOSA) and the President of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Association of Ghana (PMAG). He was a Member of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC). Nana also helped Ghana Education Service (GES) to formulate a Competency Based Training (CBT) curriculum for schools. He was also a member of the Ministerial Advisory Board of the Minister of Education and was the Chairman of the Pentecost University College Council. He has been the Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), a Council member of the Data Link Institute of Business and Technology in Tema and also a member of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
In line with his unflinching desire for development, Nana Dr. Addo has initiated several charitable projects in the form of the provision of sports equipment, library books and other educational materials for schools in various parts of the country. He has constructed a forty (40) seater ICT centre for his community, Suhyen near Koforidua.
He has authored and published five (5) books, which include the NaCCA-approved supplementary reading books "The Seven Principles of Success and Wealth Creation" and the "Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship 1&2." Others are "The Winning Attitude and Etiquette for All" and "Life Lessons."
Nana Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo has served diligently in both public and private life.
