Professor Rowland Kwame Atiase, an illustrious alumnus of the University of Ghana Business School, currently holds the position of Professor and Ernst & Young Faculty Fellow at the Department of Accounting within the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin (UT). His academic journey spans prestigious institutions, including the University of Ghana, where he earned his B.Sc. (Admin, Honors, 1973), and the University of California, Berkeley, where he achieved his MBA (Accounting & Finance, 1975), MA (Econ., 1979), and PhD. (Accounting, 1980).
His academic pursuits and expertise revolve around financial reporting, capital markets, and cost and management accounting. His professional credentials include being a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), with prior experience in public accounting as an associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC).
The distinguished UGBS alumnus was on the faculty of the University of Florida, Gainesville, for eight years before joining the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin in July 1987. He is in his 37th year at UT-Austin. At UT-Austin, he has taught in all the programmes—BBA, integrated MPA, traditional MPA, MBA, and Ph.D. Added to his achievements, Professor Atiase has been the recipient of several Outstanding Teaching and Research Excellence Awards.
In addition to his teaching, Professor Atiase has been actively involved in administrative roles, serving on several committees at UT-Austin including Chairman and Member of the Faculty Grievance Committee of the General Faculty, Chairman and Member of the Recruitment and Retention Committee of the General Faculty, and as Chairman and Member of the College of Business Administration (CBA) Teaching Award Committee, and a Member of the CBA Hall of Fame Standing Committee.
Professor Atiase's scholarly contributions are substantial, with numerous published papers in top-tier accounting and finance journals such as the Journal of Accounting Research (JAR), the Accounting Review (TAR), the Journal of Accounting & Economics (JAE), the Review of Accounting Studies (RAST), Contemporary Accounting Research (CAR), and the Journal of Accounting, Auditing & Finance (JAAF). Furthermore, he has served on the Editorial Board of the Accounting Review (TAR) and as an Ad Hoc Reviewer for several leading journals including the Accounting Review (TAR), the Journal of Accounting Research (JAR), the Journal of Accounting & Economics (JAE), the Review of Accounting Studies (RAST), Contemporary Accounting Research (CAR), and the Journal of Accounting, Auditing & Finance (JAAF). He has also served as an Outside Reviewer for Promotion and Tenure for several Universities including Penn State University and Rutgers University.
