Alumni of the Month - December 2022

The Great American Author, Zig Ziglar, once remarked that "You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great!" The preceding holds in the storied career of Mr. Joseph Boadjo Agbodjah, whom the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) proudly recognises and acknowledges as a distinguished alumnus.
Mr. Agbodjah started his career with Volta Aluminum Company Limited (VALCO, Tema) as an Electrical Draughtsman from July 1981 to November 1982. He proceeded to join Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) in 1984 as Technical Officer Grade II. In July 1984, he joined Ghacem Limited as a Technician Trainee and for the subsequent 37 years. The trajectory of his career saw him hold offices such as Junior Technician, Purchasing Officer, Shipping Officer, Senior Shipping Officer, Principal Shipping Officer, Head of Shipping and Stores, Shipping and Logistics Manager for Tema and Takoradi Factories of Ghacem and in 2020 he became the Logistics Manager, Ghana - in charge of in-bound and out-bound logistics for Ghacem.
Mr. Agbodjah trained in various international programmes with Den Norske Bank in 1994 in Oslo, Norway and with the offices of then Scancem Int. Cement Group, also in Norway in 2004.
Mr. Agbodjah also holds the following certificates: Electrical installation Course "B" Certificate from St. Paul Technical institute (1977-81); Electrical installation Works Certificate "C" from City and Guilds of London Institute (1982); Customs, Excise and Preventive Service, Proficiency Certificate – 2001; Purchasing, Supply and Stores Management; Customs, Shipping Management and Negotiations; Industrial Relations; W.T.O. Destination Inspection Scheme; Basic Logistics Management; Effective Port Operations; Purchasing Efficiency Competence; Effective Leadership Management and Administration.
Mr. Agbodjah is also a graduate of Methodist University College (Ghana) with a Bachelor of Business Administration (2006-2009) and an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA with Human Resource Specialisation) from the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) from 2011 to 2013. He believes that his notable career achievements include all-time cement dispatch record of over 3 million tons of bagged cement. Also under his leadership, the outbound logistics of Ghacem which include the delivery of bagged cement to the various depots, increased by more than 40% over the previous year's deliveries. Mr. Agbodjah was also the Contract Administrator and liaison with Ghacem's quarry services providers for a continuous period of 7 years and during this period there was a harmonised portfolio of quarry operations at Nauli in Nzema and Oterkpolu in the Krobo mountains.
Currently, Mr. Agbodjah has a consultancy called Karea Ventures, with a special focus on general logistics, port operations, shipping, quarry operations, and administration of quarry contracts.
The University of Ghana Business School, therefore, appreciates Mr. Joseph Boadjo Agbodjah for his determination and dedication and the School is proud to be associated with him and to name him as the alumnus of the month of December 2022.
