In her bid to provide quality education to students despite the global pandemic, the University of Ghana Business School, UGBS, held a series of online orientations for its first semester Sandwich programme cohorts. The two-part series covered areas relating to various aspects of teaching and learning at the Business School in the light of the pandemic. The series began with an overview of UGBS, given by Mr. Emmanuel Poku-Sarkodee, School Administrator for UGBS.
The first session, led by Dr. Acheampong Owusu, IT Coordinator, and his team took students through the use of the online facilities made available to them. Issues like online registration, gaining access to the SAKAI portal and to educational material, were addressed.
The second session, facilitated by Dr. Patience Abor, Coordinator for MSc. Clinical Leadership and Management had the Dean of UGBS, Professor Justice Nyigmah Bawole, addressing the cohorts. In his welcome address, Professor Bawole stated that the school aims to develop quality human resources and leaders using world-class education and research to meet national and global needs. He stated that UGBS is the best business school in West Africa, with accreditation from the Association of African Business Schools (AABS) amongst others. In his closing remarks, he encouraged the students to work hard, to engage with faculty when faced with challenges to enable them to have a memorable and wonderful experience during their period of study, and pledged that faculty will deliver the expected quality education despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.
Professor Robert Osei, Vice Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, took the students through the regulations of the Graduate School. He stressed particularly on the responsibilities the School has towards the students as well as the duties students had towards the School. Mr Emmanuel Poku-Sarkodee, again, highlighted on the School’s infrastructure. He further explained to the students how they could access certain online facilities like the online library, and the MIS web. He was followed by Dr. James Abugre, a lecturer with the Department of Organisation and Human Resource Management, who spoke on other academic related matters.
The series ended with very interactive Question and Answer sessions.
