University of Ghana Business School-Executive Development (UGBS-ED) organised a four day Clinical Leadership and Management training in response to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO, 2007) highlight on the need for healthcare managers to have appropriate competencies to deliver on their mandate in the health services sector. The training was held from the 24th -28th July, 2017, at the Graduate Building of the University of Ghana Business School.
The Clinical Leadership and Management training seeks to equip participants with the required knowledge and skill to be highly effective in exploring the factors that influence management of people and organisations in the health care sector. Healthcare managers were taken through cultivating personal leadership styles that will impact on those around them.
Participants were trained on how to develop strategies for using personal power to build strong mutual relationships in their healthcare institutions. Participants also received training on effective management strategies to enhance efficiency in the day-to-day management traits needed to enrich internal control mechanisms within their healthcare institutions.
At the end of the training, participants shared their experiences and were positive the training will have great impact and contribution on their knowledge and career paths. They commended UGBS-ED for organising such interactive, exciting and educative courses that will help them develop deeper insight to satisfy the needs of their internal and external customers. This, they noted will improve their leadership and managerial skills to improve institutional systems. The programme attracted high profile personnel from the health service sector and among them were Chiefs of Clinical Divisions, Chairs of Departments, Leaders of Clinical Affairs, Medical Doctors and Hospital CEOs.
Mrs. Gifty Enchill, Business Development Manager, UGBS-ED, thanked participants for taking part in the training and expressed the school’s delight in training and serving them. She then awarded participants with certificates for taking the course. The course was facilitated by experienced faculty from UGBS, and among them were Dr. Gordon Abekah-Nkrumah, Dr. Kwesi Amponsah-Tawiah, Dr. Kwesi Dartey-Baah, Dr. Roger A. Atinga, and Dr. Ibrahim Bedi.
The UGBS-Executive Development provides development courses designed to provide business executives with new and innovative approaches to business management. The UGBS-ED provides research, consultancy and executive training specifically aimed at professionals in various sectors of the economy.
