The University of Ghana Business School Executive Development unit (UGBS-ED) organised a course on "Effective Leadership in Management and Administration" from the 13th to 15th February, 2018. The course was focused on giving participants from academic and industry practical understanding in their profession. The first day was the introductory phase of the programme. Benjamin Mekpor (HRM) was the facilitator for the second and third days of the programme. He took the participants through the Effective Leadership in Management and Administration course.
He defined leadership, differentiated between leadership and management as well as outlined the various leadership styles. He stated that before a system becomes perfect in an organisation, there will be issues; however, leaders must be firm in making certain decisions.
Benjamin Mekpor explained the effective leadership test; he stated that it entailed having a vision, good communication skills, motivation, knowing the followers perception, knowing one's organisation and industry and building the team. He also threw more light on topics such as conflict resolution, delegation, stress management and having successful meetings.
The three day training programme came to an end with participants engaging in an interactive session with Benjamin Mekpor where they asked questions and developed solutions to some problems affecting them in their various workplaces. Mrs. Gifty Enchill, the coordinator then presented certificates to the participants.
