The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) has successfully completed the European Foundation for Management Development Deans Across Frontier (EDAF) process. The European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) is a globally recognised international association for the accreditation of business schools and corporations. The EFMD is made up of organisations from academia, business, public service and consultancy in 88 countries -- UGBS is joining nearly 900 institutions across a vast international network.
The EDAF is an evaluation and mentoring system for international business schools, which involves an in depth evaluation of the Business School through international comparison and benchmarking using established benchmarks.
The status of a full-fledged EFMD member will give UGBS the opportunity to introduce new educational schemes with the active support of the EFMD, to share experience and best practices with leading business schools in Europe. Additionally, membership in the EFMD will be the first step by UGBS towards its accreditation by the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS), which confirms the high quality of educational services necessary for building extensive managerial and entrepreneurial skills. What it means is that UGBS is now in a position to apply for the EQUIS accreditation.
A successful EQUIS accreditation will mean that UGBS will join the three prestigious business schools in Africa (University of Stellenbosch Business School, University of Cape Town Business School and American University in Cairo Business School) who already have the EQUIS accreditation.
The EDAF process started in March 2016, when a four-member delegation from EFMD paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana and subsequently had series of meetings with UGBS management, faculty and administrative staff.
"The faculty and staff of UGBS have worked hard and successfully completed the EDAF process in less than two years instead of the three years that most business schools have taken," said the Dean, Professor Joshua Yindenaba Abor, after receiving a certificate of completion of the EDAF programme on behalf of UGBS during the EFMD Annual Conference in June 2018 at the Copenhagen Business School.
