Jun 24, 2021

An Economics Professor at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), Professor Godfred Bokpin, has emphasized the importance of digitalisation in Ghana’s economic itinerary. He addressed this issue in the Graphic Business and Stanbic Bank’s Breakfast Meeting held at the Labadi Beach Hotel. The meeting was themed: ‘Digitalisation: The key to unlocking the Ghanaian dream’.

In his statement, he indicated that the Ministry of Communication has a major responsibility of ensuring that every individual in the country is abreast with digitalisation. He revealed that digitalisation is an essential tool in a country’s financial development which could aggravate inequality. “COVID-19 came and the universities, as a result of government’s directives, had to migrate online. Unfortunately, not all students had access to the online learning”, he stated. He stated that Ghana’s ability to advance digitalisation would boost the creation of more jobs in the country.

Professor Bokpin suggested that Ghana’s digitalisation must focus more on tertiary education especially for students who are yet to graduate. “We should be equipping our students and graduates with the necessary digital skills to be able to compete globally”, he explained.

Dignitaries present at the meeting included Mr. Selorm Adadevor, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), MTN Ghana; Mr. Richard Okyere-Fosu, Director-General, NITA; Mr. Ato Afful, Managing Director, Graphic Communication Group Limited and; Mr. Alex Bram, CEO, Hubtel.
