The Department of Organisation and Human Resource Management (OHRM) of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) recently appointed and welcomed Professor Damoah Obi Berko as their new Head of Department. He takes over from Professor Kwesi Amponsah-Tawiah.
Professor Damoah Obi Berko holds a PhD in Strategic Management from Wales, UK; an MBA in Corporate Strategy & Economic Policy, Netherlands; an MPhil in Finance; and a BSc Administration in Accounting, Ghana. Prof. Obi currently lectures in Advanced Business Planning, Strategic Management, and Project Management in Climate Change. He is a member of three reputable academic professional associations namely: the British Academy of Management (BAM), UK, Academy International Business (AIB), USA, and the Academy of Management (AoM), USA.
In an interview with Prof. Obi, he disclosed his intentions to scale up the gender dimension of the department’s faculty as women currently make up between just 5% to 10% of the total faculty. He also hinted at his plans to roll out three new programmes by the end of his first term. However, he seeks to address a few accreditation issues surrounding some of the programmes yet to be rolled out in the short term.
For students, he intends to continue the arrangement began by his predecessor by bringing on board the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Practitioners Ghana to offer the students the opportunity to be given some exemptions and write the professional exams. This will give students the option of either Chartering while in school or right after school.
The University of Ghana Business School wishes Professor Damoah Obi Berko the best in his tenure of office and hopes that all his initiatives will get to see the light of the day.
